Development of the physics-based simulation models has been always a huge problem when developing a simulator, especially high performance simulators, as a FFS or a tactical simulator. Nowadays there are some COTS in the market that provides simulation models for different platforms, especially aircrafts and helicopters. These COTS can be integrated in Simware platform using both APIs but you can also develop your own simulation models using SimDeveloper, based on Mathworks Simulink. SimDeveloper is fully integrated in Simware platform, providing automatic code generation for Simware middleware and runtime infrastructure; but SimDeveloper can be also customized to other simulation engines and simulator hosts.
Development of simulation models for real time simulators has been always a tough task. When the real time simulator must be compliant with formal regulations as those submitted by FAA or JAA, the problem is even greater, because in this case the behaviour of the simulated systems must be equal to the real system only allowing small tolerances. The solution to former issues is to avoid the source-code and to work visually at a model level. SimDeveloper is based on the Model Driven Development (MDD) paradigm, leveraging Mathwork's Simulink product to provide a rich GUI for the development of Simulation Assets.
